About Pangea Aerospace:

We are a company dedicated to developing advanced propulsion systems for the space industry based on three key principles: high efficiency, sustainability, and reusability. We are revolutionizing the space industry with ground breaking innovations that allows us to offer the best performance to cost propulsion systems.

Our goal is to be the propulsion provider for the next-generation of spacecraft, which are essential to meet the demands and compete in the booming space market of the next decade.

We are a passionate, multicultural, and multidisciplinary team pushing the boundaries of what it is possible in space propulsion technology.

We have already made history by successfully testing the world's first 3D printed Methalox Aerospike engine, marking a significant milestone for the space industry.

We are looking for talented professionals to join our international team in Barcelona and Toulouse. We want to be key player in improving diversity in Aerospace sector as, in Pangea, we believe that diversity (gender, age, race, sexual orientation, beliefs, disability, culture, etc.) is a key to success. Within Pangea, everyone can grow with the same opportunities. We encourage you to apply. Individually we are different, but together we are an amazing team!

We are looking for an Additive Manufacturing Engineer in Barcelona.

About the job:

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled engineer specializing in Additive manufacturing techniques with a special focus on Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) technology to join our team. This role focuses on developing, optimizing, and managing WAAM production processes for propulsion components. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the relationship between process parameters, material microstructure, and final properties, ensuring all components meet strict aerospace standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process Development & Optimization:

- Define and optimize production parameters (e.g., current, voltage, wire feed rate, travel speed, shielding gas) to ensure compliance with the mechanical and thermal requirements of liquid rocket engine components.

-Establish robust procedures to improve efficiency, repeatability, and quality of AM-produced components.

  • Materials and Metallurgical Analysis:

- Analyze the correlation between process parameters, resulting microstructures, and final material properties.

- Evaluate and improve material performance through metallurgical assessments (e.g., grain structure, phase distribution, and porosity control).

- Collaborate with the materials team to analyze and optimize wire composition for WAAM applications.

  • Quality Assurance:

- Perform and support mechanical testing, non-destructive evaluation (NDE), and validation of components to meet spaceflight standards.

- Ensure full compliance with industry certifications and customer specifications for aerospace components.

  • Welding and Additive Expertise:

- Leverage knowledge of welding processes (TIG, MIG, plasma arc, etc.) to identify parallels and improvements in WAAM practices.

- Collaborate with powder and wire metallurgy experts to integrate innovative material solutions into the WAAM process.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:

- Work closely with design, manufacturing, and testing teams to provide feedback on design for manufacturability (DfM) specific to WAAM.

- Support R&D initiatives to expand the use of WAAM in new component applications.

What you need to be successful:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in WAAM technology, including parameter development for aerospace or similarly demanding industries.
  • Strong knowledge of additive manufacturing, welding processes, and metallurgy.
  • Familiarity with liquid rocket engine components and their functional requirements.
  • Proven understanding of the relationship between WAAM process parameters, microstructures, and final material properties.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot manufacturing challenges.
  • High attention to detail and focus on quality.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, R&D-intensive environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional teamwork.
  • Fluency in English.

Other desired competencies:

  • Experience with welding techniques (e.g., TIG, MIG, plasma arc) and their applications in additive manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of powder metallurgy and wire metallurgy.
  • Previous experience in aerospace, defense, or other industries with high-reliability standards.

Not hitting every requirement? Research suggests that some people tend to hesitate when it comes to job applications if they don't meet all the desired qualifications. Here at Pangea Aerospace, we're committed to fostering a workplace that values diversity, inclusivity, and authenticity. So, if you're enthusiastic about this role but your prior experience doesn't align perfectly with every qualification mentioned in the job description, we still strongly encourage you to apply. You might just be the ideal candidate for this position or other opportunities within our organization.
