About Pangea Aerospace:

We are a company dedicated to developing advanced propulsion systems for the space industry based on three key principles: high efficiency, sustainability, and reusability. We are revolutionizing the space industry with ground-breaking innovations that allow us to offer the best performance to cost propulsion systems.

Our goal is to be the propulsion provider for the next generation of spacecraft, which is essential to meet demands and compete in the booming space market of the next decade.

We are a passionate, multicultural, and multidisciplinary team pushing the boundaries of what is possible in space propulsion technology.

We have already made history by successfully testing the world's first 3D-printed Methalox Aerospike engine, marking a significant milestone for the space industry.

We are looking for talented professionals to join our international teams in Barcelona and Toulouse. We want to be a key player in improving diversity in the Aerospace sector as, in Pangea, we believe that diversity (gender, age, race, sexual orientation, beliefs, disability, culture, etc.) is a key to success. Within Pangea, everyone can grow with the same opportunities. We encourage you to apply. Individually we are different, but together we are an amazing team!

We are looking for a Combustion Device Propulsion Engineer in Toulouse

About the role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Propulsion Engineer specialising in fluidic design and analysis to join our Combustion Devices team in Toulouse. This role is crucial in enhancing the development of thrust-generating subsystems across the company’s line of products.

Within the Propulsion Department, you will play a key role in the design and development of Pangea Aerospace’s advanced cryogenic propulsion systems, supporting major programs such as our Aerospike Engine (Arcos) and staged combustion cycle developments.

You will take responsibility for the design and analysis of full Thrust Chamber Assemblies (TCA) or major components such as injectors, combustion chambers, gas generators/preburners, and igniters.

You will also contribute to the evolution of the Aerospike engine architecture, one of Pangea’s defining technologies. From early-stage design through hot-fire testing and validation, you'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across design, simulation, manufacturing, and test to turn concepts into reliable flight hardware.

This is a hands-on and technically demanding role, ideal for an engineer who thrives on product ownership and wants to grow by contributing directly to the future of reusable and sustainable space propulsion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop combustion devices, including injectors, chambers, preburners/gas generators, and igniters for LOX/methane engines
  • Take ownership of the assigned hardware across its full lifecycle: design, analysis, testing, and qualification
  • Perform analyses on performance, heat transfer, structural integrity and fluid dynamics
  • Support engine cycle architecture and system-level propulsion design efforts
  • Prepare and participate in test campaigns, and analyze resulting performance data
  • Maintain and improve internal propulsion design and simulation tools (MATLAB, Python, etc.)
  • Work closely with manufacturing and test teams to ensure design feasibility and practical execution
  • Document design choices, results, and lessons learned to contribute to our growing knowledge base and design heritage

What you need to be successful:

  • Experience in the design and analysis of chemical propulsion systems, ideally with cryogenic propellants (LOX/methane preferred)
  • Strong understanding of combustion physics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics
  • Familiarity with regenerative cooling and other cooling techniques
  • Hands-on experience in the design or analysis of Thrust Chamber Assembly components
  • Proficiency with simulation and modelling tools
  • CAD proficiency and experience working in collaborative design environments
  • A strong sense of ownership and initiative; you enjoy driving your designs forward
  • Fluent English and solid communication skills
  • A curious mindset and a passion for new technologies in propulsion

Other useful skills:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment and adapt to evolving project requirements
  • Experience with hot-fire testing: planning, operation, or data analysis
  • Familiarity with aerospike engine architectures or unconventional nozzle designs
  • Experience in CFD analysis
  • Understanding of additive manufacturing and its design constraints
  • Proficiency in Spanish or French is a plus

Not hitting every requirement? Research suggests that some people tend to hesitate when it comes to job applications if they don't meet all the desired qualifications. Here at Pangea Aerospace, we're committed to fostering a workplace that values diversity, inclusivity, and authenticity. So, if you're enthusiastic about this role but your prior experience doesn't align perfectly with every qualification mentioned in the job description, we still strongly encourage you to apply. You might just be the ideal candidate for this position or other opportunities within our organisation.
