We are looking for an Turbomachinery Mechanical Engineer in Barcelona.


About the role:

This role will have you directly impacting the design and development of Pangea’s aerospike engine, in addition to the greater catalogue of advanced rocket engines that Pangea is developing. You will be directly responsible for the development of components and subsystems capable of operating at extreme conditions, using advanced manufacturing techniques.

The position offers and requires leadership, creativity, innovation, and autonomy, as you will be directly responsible for a critical subsystem of some of the most advanced and powerful rocket engines currently under development in Europe.

Responsibilities:

  • Work directly within Pangea’s turbomachinery department to develop a wide range of turbopump technologies for rocket engine system
  • Be the responsible engineer for the development of rocket turbomachinery systems with a focus on Mechanical design, analysis, and test of subcomponents such as pump and turbine rotors, casings, and bearings.
  • Organize and execute plans to achieve technical and system requirements
  • Analyze test data to validate component structural performance
  • Work with suppliers and machine shops to produce and qualify turbopump components.
  • Work closely with fluidic design and test teams.

    What you need to be successful:
  • Bachelor’s degree in aeronautical/astronautical, aerospace or mechanical engineering.
  • 2+ years of mechanical design experience in either an aerospace field, or any field working with turbomachinery or pumps.
  • Strong understanding of thermomechanical loading, stress, and dynamics
  • Experience with commercial CAD software (Siemens Nx preferably).
  • Experience with GD&T standards and producing design drawings
  • Experience with either traditional manufacturing methods or additive manufacturing methods.
  • Experience with Rocket turbopumps OR other types of turbomachines OR rotating machinery, bearings, or dynamic seals OR cryogenic fluid systems
  • Working proficiency in English

    Other desired competencies:
  • Understanding of rocket turbomachinery systems and rocket engine cycles.
  • Master’s degree in aeronautical, aerospace or mechanical engineering
  • Experience with commercial FEA software (Ansys or Abaqus preferably).
  • Experience with programming languages (Matlab or Python preferably)
  • In-depth understanding of liquid rocket engine working principles
  • Experience with Combustion systems
